COMMUNITY AUSTIM INTERVENTION PROGRAM (C.A.I.P)
CAIP offers a wide variety of diagnostic assessments and treatment services utilizing the most up-to-date, evidence based modalities available for assisting youth with an Autism Spectrum diagnosis. Our clinic utilizes the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) to achieve an accurate and effective diagnosis. The ADOS is a semi-structured assessment of communication, social interaction, and play (or imaginative use of materials) for individuals suspected of having autism or other pervasive developmental disorders. The ADOS consists of four modules, each of which is appropriate for youth of differing developmental and language levels, ranging from nonverbal to verbally-fluent.
Lastly, CAIP provides community resource referrals to aide clients and families. CAIP has a close relationship with the University of South Alabama’s Pediatric Developmental Medicine clinic and Regional Autism Network. Every client’s needs are different and CAIP assists with finding resources to help meet their needs.
In addition, our clinical staff is trained in behavioral therapy. Behavioral therapy is widely recognized as a safe and effective treatment for autism. It has been endorsed by a number of state and federal agencies, including the U.S. Surgeon General. Over the last decade, the nation has seen a particularly dramatic increase in the use of behavioral therapy to help persons with autism live happy and productive lives. In particular, behavioral therapy principles and techniques can foster basic skills such as looking, listening and imitating, as well as complex skills such as reading, conversing and understanding another person’s perspective.
